Ten years ago a boutique owner who wanted Italian leather bags had two options: travel to a trade fair or visit the showrooms around Florence. Today the same buyer can order from a phone, at midnight, from dozens of platforms. That is progress. It also makes the choice harder, because every channel has its own minimums, payment terms and hidden costs.
This guide compares the main ways a European boutique, concept store or online reseller can buy handbags wholesale in 2026. We explain how each channel works, who pays what, and when it makes sense to buy directly from the producer.
The three routes to wholesale handbags
Almost every option falls into one of three groups:
- Open wholesale marketplaces such as Faire, Ankorstore and Orderchamp. Many small brands, low minimums, payment terms financed by the platform.
- Brand-to-buyer ordering platforms such as JOOR and NuORDER. Digital showrooms used by established fashion brands and department stores.
- Direct from the producer, online or in a showroom. No intermediary between the workshop and your shop.
B2C marketplaces such as Zalando or Miinto are a fourth door, but they work the other way round: they help you sell stock, not buy it. We cover them at the end.
Open wholesale marketplaces
Faire
Faire is the largest of the open marketplaces and is strong in the US, UK and Europe. For retailers the main attraction is credit: orders are usually payable at 60 days (net 60), and Faire carries the payment risk. Brands pay Faire a 15% commission on marketplace orders, plus a one-time fee on a new retailer’s first order. When a brand brings its own customer through a Faire Direct link, the commission drops to 0% (Stocksmith, April 2026).
Good for: discovering many small brands in one basket, testing a product with little cash.
Watch out for: the commission is built into the wholesale price you see. Search “Italian leather bags wholesale” on Faire and you will find many Florence brands, often sourced from the same workshops, at different prices.
Ankorstore
Ankorstore was born in Paris and focuses on European independent retail. Its best-known rule is a low €100 minimum order per brand, with payment terms up to 60 days for eligible retailers and longer for members of its paid plan (Ankorstore).
Good for: French, Belgian, German and Spanish boutiques that want many small orders from different brands.
Watch out for: the same price logic as Faire. Brands that pay a commission on every order tend to set their wholesale prices higher to protect their margin.
Orderchamp
Orderchamp is an Amsterdam-based wholesale marketplace, independent and venture-backed, with a strong base in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany (CB Insights). The model is close to Ankorstore: curated brands, low minimums and payment terms for shops.
Good for: Benelux and DACH concept stores.
Brand-to-buyer platforms: JOOR and NuORDER
JOOR and NuORDER are not marketplaces where you browse thousands of unknown brands. They are digital showrooms that established brands use to take orders from department stores and multi-brand retailers, usually season by season. JOOR states it connects over 14,000 brands with more than 700,000 buyers; NuORDER is now owned by Lightspeed (JOOR).
Good for: buyers who already work with known brands and place pre-season orders.
Watch out for: you usually need an invitation from the brand, and pre-orders mean waiting months for delivery.
Direct from the producer
The oldest route is still the shortest. A producer that sells directly has no platform commission to recover, so it can offer:
- Lower unit prices for the same quality, or more quality for the same price.
- Real stock information: what is in the warehouse today and what is made to order.
- Flexibility: changing a colour, adding your logo, mixing models freely.
- A person to talk to when a delivery is urgent or a model sells out.
The disadvantage is that you lose the platform’s credit terms and you have to judge the supplier yourself. Ask four questions before the first order: Where is the stock? What is the minimum? How fast does it ship? Can I see prices before I call someone?
How the main options compare
| Channel | Typical minimum | Payment terms for the buyer | Who pays the commission | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Faire | Set by each brand | Net 60 | Brand, 15% on marketplace orders | Small test orders from many brands |
| Ankorstore | €100 per brand | Up to 60 days | Brand | European independents |
| Orderchamp | Low, set by brand | Payment terms offered | Brand | Benelux and DACH concept stores |
| JOOR / NuORDER | Set by brand, pre-season | Agreed with brand | Brand subscription | Established brands, department stores |
| Direct from a Florence producer | E.g. €300 at Massimo Castelli | Agreed with producer | None | Margin, speed, private label |
What about Zalando, Miinto and other B2C marketplaces?
These platforms help shops sell online, not buy. Zalando, for example, offers three models: classic wholesale, where Zalando buys and owns the stock; the Partner Program, where you sell your own stock on Zalando and keep control of prices; and Connected Retail, which lets physical stores sell their in-store stock online in exchange for a commission (Zalando). Miinto, born in Copenhagen, works in a similar way for multi-brand fashion boutiques.
For a boutique these channels are worth considering once the buying side is solved: margin earned at purchase is what pays the marketplace commission later.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for wholesale handbags? It depends on the channel. Ankorstore sets €100 per brand; on Faire each brand sets its own minimum. Producers selling direct usually ask for a higher order but let you mix freely: at Massimo Castelli the minimum is €300 excluding VAT, across any models and colours.
Is Faire or Ankorstore cheaper for buying bags? Neither charges the retailer a commission: the brand pays it. The real difference is the wholesale price each brand sets and the payment terms you qualify for. Compare the same model on both platforms, then against the producer’s direct price.
Can I buy Italian leather bags wholesale without travelling to Florence? Yes. Many Florence producers now sell online with live stock. Before ordering, check that prices are visible after registration, that goods ship from Italy and that delivery times are stated.
How fast can I restock a best-seller? On pre-season platforms, often only next season. From a producer with stock in the warehouse, you can reorder right away instead of waiting for the next season.
The bottom line
Platforms are excellent for discovery and for credit. Buying direct is better for margin, speed and control. Most successful boutiques use both: a platform to test new brands, and a direct relationship with one or two producers for the core of the assortment that sells every season.
